DEXTAPE GUIDES

How to read a Dextape chart

Area, candles, log, and moving averages are views of the same sourced series — not a forecast overlay.

Open an asset in Terminal and check the source and update time beside its chart. Price history and candles can come from different supported providers, including CoinGecko, Binance, CoinMarketCap DEX and other supported market venues. Availability depends on the exact asset, trading pair and time range. Missing history remains unavailable; a sampled price line is not treated as genuine OHLC candles.

The range row

  • 4H and 1D use fine intervals (minutes). Use them to see a session, not a thesis.
  • 1M / 3M / 1Y coarsen the bars so the pane stays readable. Zoom with the wheel; that does not fetch a new interval until you change the range.
  • All shows the available provider history. It does not guarantee every trade since the asset launched; supported history and resolution vary by source.

Area vs candles vs log vs MA

  • Area is the last price through time. Useful when you want slope, not wicks.
  • Candles require real open, high, low and close observations for the selected asset or pair. Check the displayed venue or pool: its prices can differ from an aggregated market quote. Candles may be available through a supported DEX pool even when the asset has no Binance pair.
  • Log compresses percent moves. A $1,000 Bitcoin move is not the same as a $1,000 Solana move; log is the honest overlay when comparing regimes.
  • MA 7 and 25 average complete windows of displayed observations, using candle closes in candle mode. Those periods count observations, not calendar days. Changing the range can therefore change what the averages describe.

Keyboard: J/K steps assets, 1–7 changes range, A/C area or candles, L log, M averages, B book, T tape. Hover for OHLC. Volume sits on a separate scale so a $76,000 Bitcoin last-price line cannot print on a $99 Solana pane.
